The Story Of The Modest Lanyard

By Jack Blake

The lanyard is a familiar sight and has a long history of use. It has adorned swords and has dangled a whistle from the neck of your elementary school gym teacher. Lanyards have been used for years to keep our important things close at hand, and it's survived all this time due to its simplicity and utility.

Lanyards were originally used by soldiers and officers in the military to keep their weapons secure and within reach. It kept their sidearm, be it pistol or sword, within easy grasp whenever it was needed, and also kept it safely out of the way otherwise. The simple and lowly lanyard was not in the spotlight of a warrior's equipment, but it reliably served an incredibly valuable purpose.

Today lanyards are still an underappreciated item in the eyes of many, and usually go unnoticed. If you were to take note you would find lanyards in places from the white house to a rock concert. These days' doctors, policemen and FBI agents use them to display their identification and other important credentials. Many government agencies use them to keep key cards for secure doors on their person. Members of the press display their press identification on lanyards as you may have seen during White House press conferences.

And pressure on government officials are not the only ones who use the lanyards, which are widely used in The world of entertainment. Lanyards at concerts, are often used for VIP passes to the stage of identification, hands and other crew members. In the field of sports and the NFL to keep all my important match referees on the lanyards. The lanyard allows speeds of up to power in the game during a quick and professional. And doctors in the use of identity cards for Lanyards to take over security and allow the patients to facilitate their identification. As you can see, however, Lanyards are an integral part of that health and safety.

It's not just professionals who have come to rely on lanyards. Children have lanyards supplied by parents to hang their house keys safely around their necks, where they have less of a chance to lose it. Students often wear identification cards on lanyards to prevent outsiders from sneaking into the school. Small tools such as flashlights can be worn around your neck, if you're a handyman who needs quick access to them in less-than-ideal lighting. Plumbers, computer repair technicians, and others could also find it useful to have the tools of their trade close by on a lanyard. Sometimes to prevent ink stains on your shirt pocket, you may opt to wear a pen on the lanyard instead.

It is obvious that lanyards are versatile and absolutely essential accessories for securing small items, whether it's identification badges or utilities, in an army base or at a music festival. You can find lanyards in almost any place and in use by almost any kind of person. It is hard to think of something so simple and powerful as the wonderful lanyard.
