Brother HL-5250DN Printer A Good Solution For Home Use

By Ben Pate

If you are a small office and you are seeking an affordable yet quality printer solution the HL-5250DN printer from Brother is network ready and has features that have yet to be seen on more expensive products. It is also an ideal solution for home desktop use for a family who wishes to make use of one networked laser printer. The printer comes out of the box network-ready and has both a USB 2.0 and BaseT Ethernet parallel port.

For those of you who believe that weight equates to quality, you will be happy with this product. It weighs in at 22lbs so is no lightweight. It is however compact (the paper tray fits underneath the printer) and will take up very little desk space. The network connection is incredibly simple; all the operator needs to do is follow the included step-by-step instructions.

Rating for the Brother HL-5250DN Printer is around 20 000 pages per month, however the paper input tray only allows 250 sheets. This might be a little too little for business use, however additional paper trays may be added. These are an expensive option however, and quite honestly I would rather just feed it extra paper whenever it needs it, than pay an additional $199.00 per tray!

You are easily able to set this printer up against a wall or partition as it has no exit at the rear for paper. It also has a 150 sheet tray for out-put paper and a 50 sheet tray for multi-purpose use. However it must be noted that non-standard media such as card and envelopes do not have a straight paper path.

This particular printer provides exceptionally good print quality. It can be set to support a resolution as high as 1200 x 1200 dpi. This means that even when the operator is making use of very small print the quality is sharp, dark and clear. Both photo and grayscale images are smooth and without lining.

After a period of inactivity this printer can spring into live and print out a page within less than 9 seconds. The manufacturer's specifications rate its speed at 30 pages per minute. But in the real world, how often is it that a product actually measures up to the manufacturers specifications? However if you would like to time it, please be my guest. One thing is unlikely, and that is it is doubtful that anyone would complain whilst waiting impatiently for a printed document.

This printer is a very flexible solution for any home or small business. It provides good quality, fast printed material which looks extremely professional. One of its outstanding capabilities is that it is able to print double sided. This is an extremely useful solution for printing both manuals and brochures. It comes standard with a memory of 32MD, but for more complex printing, this is simply upgraded to 544MB.

One point of absolute fact is that care must be taken to use the correct toner in this printer. A Brother HL 5250DN Toner product is available, and as with all technologically sensitive machinery, it is a must that the correct consumables are used. This also includes making use of the correct weight of paper.
